Adequate Transportation Access Facilitates Mobility for Flat Residents

Jakarta City Council's Commission D Member, Bun Joi Phiau supports the Jakarta Provincial Government's plan in intensifying flat construction to meet the community's housing needs.

Flat construction has become a necessity

Bun said that vertical housing is the right solution due to limited land in Jakarta and the high demand for housing.

"Flat construction has become a necessity with increasingly limited land now," he said, Tuesday (5/13).

According to him, the flat construction must be accompanied with adequate public transportation access to support residents mobility.

"Jakarta Provincial Government should ensures integrated transportation facilities are available to ease the occupants mobility," he added.

Bun explained the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data in 2021 state that 1,862,440 family heads (KK) needed housing. In fact, until 2024, the number of available flat units had only reached 33,830 units.

"This shows a significant shortage amidst increasingly shrinking empty land," he explained.

He assessed that Jakarta Provincial Government needs to accelerate the flat construction by considering a number of strategic aspects.

"One of them is the flat location that is close to the economic activities center," he stated.
